Thuy Anh Dental Clinic (Nha Khoa Thùy Anh), Hanoi: clinical review

A five-category clinical assessment of Thuy Anh Dental Clinic (Nha Khoa Thùy Anh), Hanoi: a Vietnamese-patient-facing local clinic, registered as a household business (Hộ Kinh Doanh) since 2022, with a named orthodontist principal from Hanoi Medical University and one published practitioner certificate number for a named oral surgeon.

Disclosure. Thuy Anh Dental Clinic (Nha Khoa Thùy Anh) is not a commercial partner of this publication. SmileJet and Picasso Dental Clinic are affiliated with this publication and are disclosed at /disclosures/; neither operates in Vietnam and neither has any relationship with this clinic. This review was produced without payment, accommodation, travel, equipment, or any other consideration from the clinic or any affiliated entity.

⚠ Clinical finding: CONCERN
Overall finding: CONCERN. Thuy Anh Dental Clinic is a local Vietnamese-patient-facing clinic in Đống Đa District, Hanoi. It is not a dental tourism operation and not primarily marketed to international patients. The review is published here because this clinic does appear in search results used by international patients researching Hanoi dental options, and because its practitioner transparency, while limited by structural constraints, includes one verifiable data point absent from many higher-profile clinics in this series: Dr. Nguyễn Đức Tuấn’s Hanoi Department of Health Certificate of Practice number (032749/HNO-CCHN) is stated on the clinic’s website. A certificate number is not the same as an independently confirmed active registration (the MOH practitioner register at cosonguoihanhnghe.moh.gov.vn was inaccessible at time of research), but publishing the number is an act of transparency that allows a patient to attempt verification. The remaining gaps are significant: no independent quality accreditation, no PubMed publications for any named practitioner, the entity registered only in 2022 despite claiming a longer operational history, and no documented complication pathway for an international patient returning home.

What this review covers

This is a desk review: no site visit, no patient interviews, no access to clinical records. Every finding is sourced from publicly accessible primary sources. Where a claim cannot be verified from a primary source, that is stated explicitly.

A note on scope. This clinic is primarily designed for local Vietnamese patients seeking orthodontic and general dental care at affordable prices. Its marketing is primarily Vietnamese-language. It is not, in any meaningful sense, a dental tourism operation. The review framework still applies: an international patient who ends up at this clinic deserves the same assessment as a patient at a purpose-built dental tourism clinic. The framework will encounter more structural gaps here simply because a local Vietnamese clinic has no reason to build the international-patient infrastructure a dental tourism clinic would.

Category 1: Clinical governance and practitioner registration

Finding: CONCERN

The regulatory framework. All dental practitioners in Vietnam must hold a Certificate of Practice (Chứng chỉ hành nghề, or CCHN) issued by the Ministry of Health or a provincial Department of Health under Circular 41/2011/TT-BYT and its successors. The MOH maintains a public register of practice certificates at cosonguoihanhnghe.moh.gov.vn. That database was inaccessible at time of research (ECONNREFUSED). Dental facilities require a separate operating licence from the Hanoi Department of Health; that licence number is not disclosed on the clinic’s website.

The corporate structure. The registered entity is a Hộ Kinh Doanh (an individual/household business, registered to one natural person; Đống Đa District People’s Committee, Finance and Planning Division, 18 May 2022). Tax code 8661774286 and business registration number 01E8036748 are stated on the clinic’s contact page but were not independently verified via masothue.com.vn (inaccessible). A Hộ Kinh Doanh is the lowest tier of Vietnamese business registration: appropriate for a small clinic operated by a single licensed practitioner, but a thinner governance trail than a Joint Stock Company or LLC.

A notable discrepancy: the clinic claims a longer operational history predating the 2022 registration date. This could indicate a prior registration under a different entity or address, or an informal operation that was formalised in 2022. This publication cannot resolve the discrepancy from public sources.

Named practitioners (all data clinic-sourced unless stated):

  • Dr. Trần Thùy Anh: principal, registered name-holder. Stated BDS, Hanoi Medical University, 2012. Stated MOH Certificate of Practice in orthodontics (no number disclosed). Invisalign certified (Align Technology USA; training Bangkok 2017, Singapore 2018; stated Tie Diamond status 2025, the highest Invisalign provider tier, which requires documented case volume). All credentials clinic-sourced; none independently verified.

  • Dr. Nguyễn Đức Tuấn: stated oral surgeon. Hanoi Department of Health Certificate of Practice number: 032749/HNO-CCHN (clinic-sourced). This is the one verifiable data point in this review: the certificate number format (032749/HNO-CCHN) is consistent with Hanoi DoH (HNO) practitioner certificates and could be verified by a patient directly with the Department of Health. The database could not be accessed to confirm current active status.

  • Additional doctors listed (clinic-sourced, no certificate numbers): Dr. Lê Sơn Tùng (Medical Director, prosthodontics/TMJ), Dr. Hoàng Minh Huy, Dr. Nguyễn Hoà Bình, Dr. Nguyễn Thế Anh, and others.

Category 2: Procedure-specific competence evidence

Finding: CONCERN

No PubMed-indexed publications were found for Dr. Trần Thùy Anh or any named practitioner at this clinic. Invisalign Diamond/Tie Diamond status implies documented case volume with Align Technology. This is a procedure-specific competence signal for clear aligner orthodontics specifically, though it is vendor-issued and not peer-reviewed. For implant placement, oral surgery, or restorative procedures, no independent competence evidence is available beyond stated qualifications and certificate numbers.

Category 3: Infection control and sterilisation

Finding: CONCERN

No JCI accreditation. No ISO certification. The clinic website references ADA-standard sterilisation and FDA/CE/ISO-certified imported equipment; these are marketing claims from the clinic itself, not independently verifiable. No third-party audit or certification body is named with a certificate number or audit date.

Category 4: Continuity of care for international patients

Finding: CONCERN

The clinic markets international dental tourism services (airport pickup, interpreter services, remote online consultations, and a stated 20-year implant warranty). No named hospital partner for complications or medical emergencies is documented. The 20-year implant warranty is clinic-stated and not backed by an independent warranty provider; what happens to that warranty if the clinic’s Hộ Kinh Doanh registration lapses or the registrant changes is not addressed. No documented complication/referral pathway exists in the public domain. No reciprocal health agreement exists between Australia and Vietnam, or New Zealand and Vietnam.

Category 5: Corporate and ownership transparency

Finding: CONCERN

Hộ Kinh Doanh registration is legally a sole-trader structure; the registered individual carries personal responsibility. The tax code (8661774286) and business registration number (01E8036748) are stated but not independently verified. No operating licence number is disclosed. No corporate shareholders, no board, no hospital group, no foreign corporate entity. Transparency is limited by the entity structure itself: this is not a corporate failing so much as a structural feature of the smallest category of Vietnamese business registration.

What a patient should verify before booking

  1. Ask for the Hanoi Department of Health operating licence number for this specific address and verify it with Sở Y tế Hà Nội.
  2. Ask for the Certificate of Practice (CCHN) number for the specific dentist who will treat you. Dr. Tuấn’s certificate number (032749/HNO-CCHN) is published; ask for equivalent transparency for any other treating practitioner.
  3. If you are attending for orthodontic treatment under Dr. Trần Thùy Anh, ask for her CCHN number.
  4. Get the implant warranty terms in writing before treatment. Confirm who is responsible for honouring the warranty if the clinic changes structure or closes.
  5. This is a local Vietnamese-patient-facing clinic. The international patient support infrastructure at a hospital-affiliated clinic will be meaningfully greater.
